Borussia Monchengladbach Preview: Want European return

Former Bayer Leverkusen and Young Boys boss Gerardo Seoane has been criticised during his stint in charge of Borussia Monchengladbach and they remain inconsistent but there have been signs of improvement and reasons to be encouraged over the last month and a half or so.

The home team shared a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion last weekend thanks to a 71st minute equaliser from the spot scored by Kevin Stoger. They remain entertaining, too, with their 13 Bundesliga matches consisting of 37 goals.

Holstein Kiel Preview: A struggle awaits

Following promotion back to the top-flight last season, Holstein Kiel have endured something of a miserable campaign in the Bundesliga as they begin the 14th match day of the 2024/25 campaign sitting firmly in the bottom two and the automatic relegation spots.

The visitors have managed to collect just five points with one victory from their opening 13 matches of the season. They come into this one on the back of a four-match losing streak extended by a 2-0 loss to an out-of-form RB Leipzig at home last weekend.

Borussia Monchengladbach Team News: Key absentees

Germany international midfielder Julian Weigl is unavailable due to suspension this weekend alongside key attacker Tomas Cvancara. As well as those two, the likes of Luca Netz and Yvandro Borges Sanches remain sidelined through injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Nicolas; Scally, Itakura, Elvedi, Ullrich; Reitz, Sander; Honorat, Stoger, Plea; Kleindienst

Unavailable: Olschowsky (Injured), Netz (Injured), Weigl (Suspended), Walde (Injured), Borges Sanches (Injured), Cvancara (Suspended)

Holstein Kiel Team News: Last weekend’s injuries

The visitors suffered four separate injury issues last weekend. Carl Johansson is now sidelined alongside Marco Komenda and Timo Becker with Patrick Erras suffering a concussion, too. They join Colin Kleine-Bekel on the injury list this weekend.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Weiner; Ivezic, Javorcek, Geschwill; Gigovic, Holtby, Knudsen, Remberg, Porath; Arp, Pichler

Unavailable: Becker (Injured), Kleine-Bekel (Injured), Komenda (Injured), Johansson (Injured), Erras (Concussion)

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Holstein Kiel Prediction

Borussia Monchengladbach have been fairly irritating for their supporters with clear quality but an inconsistency that is perhaps the clear result of having quite a limited squad, at least in comparison to Gladbach sides of the past decade. They should, though, earn themselves what should be quite a comfortable victory against a poor Holstein Kiel side. The visitors have struggled badly throughout the campaign and Gladbach, especially with home advantage, should take advantage of that.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Holstein Kiel Tip: Borussia Monchengladbach to win -1 handicap
