Borussia Monchengladbach preview: European push demanded
After a fairly underwhelming tenth-place finish for Borussia Monchengladbach last season, their supporters will no doubt be pushing for a more sustained challenge at the top end of the Bundesliga table in 2025-26, with European football no doubt the primary target for Gerardo Seoane’s side on this occasion.
It’s been 20 years now since Gladbach’s last major trophy and you have to go all the way back to 1977 for the last time these club won the Bundesliga, their fifth German top flight title. They are also two-time UEFA Cup winners and 1976-77 European Cup finalists.
Hamburg preview: Back where they belong
One of the longest-serving Bundesliga clubs, relegation seven years ago devastated everyone related to Hamburg. After long and winding road full of setbacks, roadblocks and heartbreak, Hamburg finally returned to the big time with a second-place finish in last season’s 2. Bundesliga, ending a wait for fans which seemed like an eternity.
They join inter-city rivals St. Pauli in the Bundesliga and will lock horns with all their old foes once again. The fixture schedule has given them a trip to Borussia Monchengladbach to start with, a tough assignment for a newly promoted club.
Borussia Monchengladbach team news: Tabakovic to lead line

Hamburg team news: Which front three?
There are questions regarding which front three we will see fielded from the start by Merlin Polzin. Rossing-Lelesiit should be one of the three, whilst Konigsdorffer is likely to get the nod up top. Jean-Luc Dompe’s role is one which could stir debate. Will he start or will he be on the bench?
Predicted XI (3-4-3): Heuer Fernandes; Omari, Elfadli, Torunarigha; Gocholeishvili, Capaldo, Remberg, Muheim; Dompe, Konigsdorffer, Rossing-Lelesiit

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hamburg prediction
Borussia Monchengladbach, as the long-time established Bundesliga side in recent years should come into this game as clear favourites against Hamburg. But the visitors are a grand old club looking to right a few wrongs after having been out of the German top flight for so criminally long. Factor in the injuries surrounding the hosts and this could prove to be an extremely close affair.
Whilst the hosts should still enjoy plenty of the play and are likely to create enough chances to at least score once, underestimate Hamburg at your peril. This is a team who won’t be afraid to take the game to the hosts and may pose a big counter-attacking threat as well. A shrewd play would be to back both teams finding the net.
