Borussia Monchengladbach Preview: Hot and racking up goals

Borussia Monchengladbach are playing some of their best football this season right now and that has been reflected in their recent results. Clinical going forward and stable in defence, they’ve picked up three wins and a draw across their last four league encounters, scoring at least twice in three of those games.

Those recent results have seen them move up the table into eighth-place with the European places now well within their sights. But they can’t afford to step off the gas anytime soon with a logjam emerging between fourth and ninth-place.

Augsburg Preview: Draw specialists

All three of Augsburg’s most recent Bundesliga fixtures have ended level, the last two of those being scoreless. Whilst the backline of the visitors has been stellar, this has in turn coincided with them not scoring as many goals at the other end of the pitch.

Augsburg have lost just one of their last seven matches in all competitions, that being a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Stuttgart in the DFB Pokal, underlining the fact that their Bundesliga form has been particularly good of late.

Borussia Monchengladbach Team News: Three out for visitors

Borussia Monchengladbach are missing Franck Honorat, Moritz Nicolas and Rocco Reitz, all three of whom are out injured. Kleindienst should start up top with Hack, Stoger, Ngoumou and Plea likely fighting over three starting spots.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Omlin; Scally, Itakura, Elvedi, Ullrich; Sander, Weigl; Ngoumou, Stoger, Plea; Kleindienst

Unavailable: Honorat (Injured), Nicolas (Injured), Reitz (Injured)

Augsburg Team News: Front two or front three

It remains to be seen as to what formation will be utilised here by Augsburg. Will they play a front three with Rexhbecaj pushed further forward, or a front two which sees Rexhbecaj in midfielder and Claude-Maurice operate in tandem with Essende up top.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Dahmen; Matsima, Gouweleeuw, Zesiger; Wolf, Jakic, Onyeka, Rexhbecaj, Giannoulis; Claude-Maurice, Essende

Unavailable: Berisha (Injured), Gumny (Injured), Kabadayi (Injured), Oxford (Illness), Pedersen (Injured)

Borussia Monchengladbach vs Augsburg Prediction

This is a difficult contest to predict between two clubs who aren’t accustomed to losing right now. Augsburg are consistently so tough to beat, whilst Borussia Monchengladbach are hot and will want to extend their recent positive run of results. But Augsburg’s solid backline should see Gladbach find it far tougher to get on the scoresheet here.

The hosts will also need to guard against Augsburg counter-attacking threat, which may lead to a cagier encounter than one would initially expect from two teams in good shape. In the end, it would be no surprise if both Gladbach and Augsburg saw a draw as a positive result, extending their respective unbeaten streaks, so it’s worth backing them to come away with a point apiece.
