Borussia Dortmund Preview: Still winless at home under Kovac

Borussia Dortmund have endured a mixed bag of results since Niko Kovac took over as head coach. Whilst his side have advanced through to the round of 16 in the Champions League, they are still yet to pick up a single victory in the Bundesliga, losing both games played under Kovac.

As mentioned above, it was a different story in the Champions League, as the German giants defeated Sporting Lisbon 3-0 on aggregate after beating them by three goals to nil in Portugal before a 0-0 draw at the Westfalen Stadion.

Union Berlin Preview: One win from their last four

Frustratingly for Union Berlin, all their good work away at Hoffenheim a fortnight ago, which saw them triumph by four goals to nil was undone by them losing against Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend in the German capital.

The loss leaves them 13th-place in the table as it stands, four points behind Augsburg in 12th. That makes this game important for them if they are to pull themselves within reach of the Bundesliga top half.

Borussia Dortmund Team News: Nmecha only definite absence

Borussia Dortmund will be missing Felix Nmecha for the visit of Union, as the midfielder is currently nursing a knee injury which has already sidelined him for a number of weeks. Aside from that, Niko Kovac should have all of his squad to choose from.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kobel; Ryerson, Sule, Schlotterbeck, Bensebaini; Sabitzer, Gross; Adeyemi, Brandt, Gittens; Guirassy

Unavailable: Nmecha (Injured)

Questionable:

Union Berlin Team News: Three out, one doubtful

Union Berlin will be without Kemlein, Ogbemudia and Skov for this game but on the plus side, defender Kevin Vogt could be available for selection provided he recovers in time from a knee problem.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ronnow; Trimmel, Doekhi, Leite, Rothe; Haberer, Khedira; Jeong, Ljubicic, Hollerbach; Ilic

Unavailable: Kemlein (Injured), Ogbemudia (Injured), Skov (Injured)

Questionable: Vogt (Injured)

Borussia Dortmund vs Union Berlin Prediction

It remains to be seen when Borussia Dortmund are going to reverse what has been a terrible slump in the Bundesliga. Any team who plays them feels like they have a great shot of winning and the same applies to Union Berlin. That should lead to an open match as the visiting side won’t be afraid to take the game to the hosts, even away from home.

When taking this into account, chances at either end are likely and regardless of the final outcome, backing both teams to score has to be favoured between these two teams.

Borussia Dortmund vs Union Berlin Tip: Both teams to score
