Borussia Dortmund are enjoying an excellent time of it at the moment as they welcome St Pauli to the Signal Iduna Park this weekend.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – Not televised / US – ESPN

How to watch online: UK – Cannot be streamed / US – ESPN+

Borussia Dortmund preview: Strong Dortmund

Ever since the appointment of former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac at the start of 2025 a previously frustrating and underperforming BD side have become far more efficient and effective at both ends of the pitch albeit some way off a sustained title challenge.

The yellow-blacks most recently eased to a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen in mid-week, courtesy of strikes from Nico Shlotterbeck, Marcel Sabitzer and Serhou Guirassy. That has extended their unbeaten run of form across all competitions to six matches.

St Pauli preview: Struggling St Pauli

Following their promotion in the 2023/24 campaign St Pauli performed extremely well last season to avoid relegation with Alexander Blessin having replaced Fabian Hurtzler. This time around though they are suffering from a bit of ‘second season syndrome’.

The Hamburg-based outfit come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena. That leaves the say inside the bottom two and the automatic relegation spots.

Borussia Dortmund team news: Couple of doubts

Borussia Dortmund are dealing with a couple of defensive injury doubts for this one such as Ramy Bensebaini and Chelsea loanee Aaron Anselmino

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Kobel; Sule, Anton, Schlotterbeck; Couto, Sabitzer, Nmecha, Ryerson; Beier, Chukwuemeka; Silva

Unavailable:

Questionable: Anselmino (Injured), Bensebaini (Injured)

St Pauli team news: A few issues

St Pauli are dealing with plenty of key first-team injuries for this weekend, and now Connor Metcalfe is also a doubt alongside the confirmed absentees of Jackson Irvine and Daniel Sinani.

Predicted XI (4-2-2-2): Vasilj; Dzwigala, Wahl, Mets; Pyrka, Smith, Ritzka; Fujita, Sands; Jones, Pereira Lage

Unavailable: Nemeth (Injured), Irvine (Injured), Sinani (Injured), Hountondji (Injured)

Questionable: Metcalfe (Injured)

Borussia Dortmund vs St Pauli prediction

St Pauli, one would anticipate, would benefit more from their hostile home atmosphere at Stadionmillerntor. However, such is the system and the style in which they play hitting on the counter attack is more suitable for them. That said, they lack the quality to really take the game to Dortmund and a home win remains the likeliest outcome, albeit it could be a reasonably entertaining encounter for the neutral.

Borussia Dortmund vs St Pauli tip: Borussia Dortmund to win & both teams to score
