Bayern Munich preview: Rampant Rekordmeister

It’s already been a good weekend for Bayern Munich, after second-placed Borussia Dortmund were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, meaning the gap between the clubs currently stands at eight points. Vincent Kompany’s side can make it a whopping 11 points with a win over Wolfsburg and they unsurprisingly start as massive favourites.

So far this season, Bayern have racked up 13 wins from 15 in the Bundesliga, dropping points just twice and remain unbeaten. Their only defeat in all competitions has come in the Champions League at the hands of Premier League leaders Arsenal in North London. It’s been quite the spell of domination, even from Bayern’s high standards.

Wolfsburg preview: Staying out of trouble

Wolfsburg head into the weekend in 14th-place and just three points above the bottom three, a number which could reduce further depending on Heidenheim’s result on Saturday. That’s no doubt far too close for the liking after what has been a poor campaign from their perspective, winning only four and losing eight of their 15 league matches so far in 2025-26.

On the back of two straight wins, Wolfsburg wound up throwing all that progress away with a disastrous defensive performance in their final game prior to the winter break. In a crazy encounter against Freiburg, Wolfsburg ended up the wrong end of a 3-4 final score.

Bayern Munich team news: Vice captain out

Bayern Munich will be without Joshua Kimmich for this game and are still waiting for Jamal Musiala to be passed fit for his first start of the season. Canadian Alphonso Davies may miss out through illness.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Stanisic; Pavlovic, Goretzka; Olise, Karl, Diaz; Kane

Unavailable: Boey (Illness), Jackson (International duty), Kimmich (Injured), Musiala (Fitness)

Questionable: Davies (Illness)

Wolfsburg team news: Amoura at AFCON

Having made headlines for the wrong reasons recently at the Africa Cup of Nations, Algeria’s Mohamed Amoura is not available for Wolfsburg, who are without four other players due to injury.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Grabara; Kumbedi, Jenz, Koulierakis, Zehnter; Gerhardt, Arnold; Skov Olsen, Eriksen, Wimmer; Pejcinovic

Unavailable: Amoura (International duty), Dardai (Injured), Maehle (Injured), Rogerio (Injured), Wind (Injured), Seelt (Illness)

Questionable: Muller (Injured)

Bayern Munich vs Wolfsburg prediction

Expect 90 minutes dominated by Bayern Munich with the carrot of extending their lead at the top of the Bundesliga not lost on their players. Wolfsburg will likely be unable to cope with the movement, passing and individual skill of Bayern’s attackers and whilst Vincent Kompany’s men are not infallible defensively, they are able to mask this through their relentless penchant for goals.

Even without Kimmich, this really should be straightforward for Bayern. They are a far better team and at home, any outcome other than a resounding victory for the Rekordmeister would be a big surprise. Therefore, it’s well worth backing Bayern to win by at least two clear goals.
