Bayern Munich preview: Brilliant Bayern

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich have been relentless in the Bundesliga throughout this campaign as the Bavarians sit at the top-of-the-table, 11 points clear of Borussia Dortmund, unbeaten with 16 victories and two draws in their 18 games.

They even had something of a tougher test at the Red Bull Arena at the weekend, going 1-0 down by half-time against RB Leipzig but eventually storming back to win by five goals to one, almost toying with their strong opposition.

Union Saint-Gilloise preview: Belgian champions

Last season, for the first time in nearly 100 years, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise managed to win the Belgian Jupiler Pro League title and they began this UEFA Champions League campaign well with the surprise 3-1 defeat of PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

However, Union SG have since lost manager Sebastien Pocognoli to Monaco. That has caused them to win just one of their next five league phase games in this competition, albeit they are still at the top-of-the-table domestically.

Bayern Munich team news: Laimer suspended

Austria international Konrad Laimer is dealing with a calf injury but he is missing through suspension for this one anyway, while Nicolas Jackson could be back from the CAF Africa Cup of Nations.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Pavlovic, Upamecano, Kim, Guerreiro; Kimmich, Goretzka; Olise, Karl, Diaz; Gnabry

Unavailable: Stanisic (Injured), Laimer (Suspended)

Questionable: Boey (Illness), Jackson (International duty)

Union Saint-Gilloise team news: Niang could return

Union SG are without three new signings in this January transfer window but key midfielder Ousseynou Niang could return from AFCON in time to play.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Scherpen; Sykes, Mac Allister, Barry; Smith, Van de Perre, Zorgane, Khalaily; Florucz, Akinpelu, Ait El Hadj

Unavailable: Sylla (Ineligible), Zeneli (Ineligible), Biondic (Ineligible)

Questionable: Niang (International duty)

Bayern Munich vs Union Saint-Gilloise prediction

With home advantage, Bayern will be expected to ease to yet another victory here. The home team have found things a bit tougher in the UEFA Champions League, with a defeat to Arsenal a blot on their copy book. However, aside from that, they remain unblemished. Union SG may well head to eastern Germany with a bit of confidence from their recent domestic form but Bayern remain the firm favourites in what is expected to be a high-scoring encounter at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich vs Union Saint-Gilloise Tip: Bayern Munich to win & over 2.5 goals
