Bayer Leverkusen Preview: Likely goodbye to Xabi

Coached by former Real Sociedad B boss Xabi Alonso, Bayer Leverkusen have enjoyed a remarkable ride in the last few years, winning the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal without losing a single game last season; that Bundesliga being their first ever league title.

They have regressed this season, as was to be expected, and despite fighting back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw in Freiburg in typical fashion last week, it is expected that Xabi Alonso now departs this summer with Real Madrid the likeliest destination.

Borussia Dortmund Preview: Impressive Dortmund

Ever since the appointment of former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac a couple of months ago, who replaced Nuri Sahin, Borussia Dortmund have been very impressive and have propelled themselves back into top four contention and potential UEFA Champions League qualification.

Dortmund come into this one on the back of a continuation of their excellent form as they hammered Wolfsburg by four goals to nil at the Westfalenstadion last weekend thanks to braces from both Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi.

Bayer Leverkusen Team News: A few injuries

Bayer Leverkusen will be dealing with a fresh injury concern as Victor Boniface deals with a thigh issue, whilst Mario Hermoso, Nordi Mukiele and Martin Terrier are all unavailable.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Kovar; Tapsoba, Tah, Piero Hincapie; Frimpong, Aleix Garcia, Xhaka, Alex Grimaldo; Wirtz, Emi Buendia; Schick

Unavailable: Mario Hermoso (Injured), Belocian (Injured), Mukiele (Injured), Terrier (Injured), Boniface (Injured)

Questionable:

Borussia Dortmund Team News: Couple of issues

Borussia Dortmund have a couple of injury issues to Germany internationals as centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck is sidelined, whilst attacker Maximilian Beier is a key doubt, too.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Kobel; Sule, Anton, Bensebaini; Ryerson, Nmecha, Gross, Svensson; Brandt, Bynoe-Gittens; Guirassy

Unavailable: Schlotterbeck (Injured)

Questionable: Beier (Injured)

Bayer Leverkusen vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction

Bayer Leverkusen have been nowhere near the level that they were last season but even to achieve a runners’ up position a couple of years ago would have been viewed as an enormous success by Xabi Alonso. Borussia Dortmund are finishing the season with a flourish as they chase Freiburg in the top four and they are doing so with some attacking intent, too. This one should be something of a thriller for the neutral.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Borussia Dortmund Tip: Over 2.5 goals
