Barcelona vs OL Lyonnes prediction
Three-time European champions Barcelona reached a record sixth consecutive UEFA Women's Champions League final with a 5-3 aggregate victory over Bayern Munich in the last four. The Catalan giants, who lost to Arsenal in last season's final, are unbeaten in Europe this season having topped the league phase and thrashed domestic rivals Real Madrid 12-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.
OL Lyonnes, the most successful side in the history of the competition with nine titles, finished level on points with Barca in the league phase before seeing off Wolfsburg in the last eight and holders Arsenal in the semi-finals.
This is the fourth time these two sides have met in the final of this competition. Barca were victorious in the most recent - 2024 - while OL came out on top in both 2019 and 2022.
Both sides are stacked with quality, but Barca have the edge when it comes to their devastating attack, with the the irrepressible Alexia Putellas supporting the clinical Ewa Pajor up front, while Balon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati looks ready to start in midfield after recently recovering from a five-month injury absence.
Lyon are spearheaded by all-time Women's Champions League top scorer Ada Hegerberg, while centre-back Wendie Renard is the top appearance maker in the history of the competition.
The storylines extend to the dugout, where OL boss Jonatan Giraldez faces the side he used to coach. Current Barca boss Pere Romeu was formerly his assistant coach.
We expect a cagey opening to this encounter as both teams feel each other out, but Barca's star quality may just shine through in the end and we fancy the Catalan stars to get the job done inside 90 minutes.
