Auxerre Preview: Get on the Auxerre

Coached by Christophe Pelissier, Auxerre gained promotion to the top-flight and they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top-half of the table and they return from the November international break sitting just four points below third place Olympique de Marseille after their opening 11 matches.

The home team come into this one on the back of some extremely impressive results with a 2-2 draw against Olympique Lyonnais at Parc OL before thrashing Stade Rennais by four goals to nil. They then defeated Marseille by three goals to one a couple of weeks ago with an impressive performance at Stade Velodrome.

Angers Preview: Don’t anger Angers

Following promotion to the top-flight of French football, Angers have endured a difficult start to life in Ligue 1 as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just above third-from-bottom Saint-Etienne in the relegation playoff place on goal difference, collecting just ten points from their opening 11 matches.

However, they have been much-improved as they stick by manager Alexandre Dujeux. Angers did suffer a 4-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain a couple of weeks ago but they were on a four-match unbeaten run of form with back-to-back draws before back-to-back victories against Saint-Etienne and then Monaco.

Auxerre Team News: Defensive injuries

There are a few pre-existing long-term injury issues for Auxerre this weekend and they are all defensively but none of them are fresh or new with all three long-term issues.

Ange Loic N’Gatta is sidelined alongside Paul Joly, who is dealing with a knee injury ahead of this weekend, as well as Ousoumane Camara, suffering from a groin injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Leon; Osho, Raveloson, Akpa; Hoever, Owusu, Danois, Mensah; Perrin, Traore; Sinayoko

Unavailable: Joly (Injured), Camara (Injured), N’Gatta (Injured)

Angers Team News: Several injuries

Angers are dealing with several injury concerns for this weekend’s trip to Auxerre with Joseph Lopy, Zinedine Ferhat, Sidiki Cherif and Cedric Hountondji all sidelined.

However, those are the only four absentees for this one. There are no fresh injury concerns for this one, though, so they can name an unchanged eleven for this one.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Fofana; Arcus, Biumla, Lefort, Hanin; Aholou, Belkebla; Allevinah, Abdelli, El Melali; Niane

Unavailable: Lopy (Injured), Cherif (Injured), Ferhat (Injured), Hountondji (Injured)

Questionable:

Auxerre vs Angers Prediction

Both of these sides will be content to be out of the bottom three with Auxerre surprising many by even looking like they could challenge and sustain a top-half finish in Ligue 1. The home team have some good players to play in transition and the ball carrying ability of Hamed Junior Traore has helped that. Angers, given that they are playing away from home, will likely deploy a low block and that could lead to a stalemate here.

Auxerre vs Angers Tip: Under 2.5 goals
