Stuttgart travel to Augsburg with the benefit of knowing all the results of their Champions League chasing rivals.

Augsburg preview: Back-to-back losses

Augsburg have lost a bit of form ahead of Stuttgart’s visit after suffering defeat in each of their last two Bundesliga fixtures. However, it’s worth noting that both losses were against tough opposition in the form of RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund. It doesn’t get any easier either for the hosts this time around.

Both those fixtures were away from home, which was another tough obstacle for Augsburg to overcome and playing in front of their own fans here could yet spark a turnaround for a team currently sat in midtable.

Stuttgart preview: Massive three points

Stuttgart gave their Champions League hopes for next season a seismic boost with a potentially season-defining 1-0 triumph against RB Leipzig last time out. Deniz Undav scored the only goal of that game to secure a crucial three points and extend Stuttgart’s currently unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga.

That win draw Stuttgart level on points with Leipzig and although the latter has since thrashed Hoffenheim 5-0, Stuttgart now get their turn on Sunday evening. Whatever the result, they will end the road still inside the top four.

Augsburg team news: Injuries keep out four

Augsburg won’t be able to call upon Jones, Mets, Saliakis and Sands for this match with all four players missing due to injury.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3): Dahmen; Chaves, Schlotterbeck, Zesiger; Fellhauer, Jakic, Massengo, Giannoulis; Rieder, Ribeiro, Claude-Maurice

Unavailable: Jones (Injured), Mets (Injured), Saliakis (Injured), Sands (Injured)

Stuttgart team news: Two key doubts

Stuttgart will check on both Leweling and Zagadou prior to kick off but can ill-afford to lose both through injury as Sebastian Hoeness selects his line-up.

Predicted XI: (3-5-2): Nubel; Al Dakhli, Chabot, Hendriks; Tomas, Assignon, Karazor, Stiller, Fuhrich; El Khannouss, Undav

Unavailable: Leweling (Injured), Zagadou (Fitness)

Augsburg vs Stuttgart prediction

The importance of beating RB Leipzig last time out cannot be underestimated from a Stuttgart point of view. Momentum is now firmly with them in the Champions League race and their squad remains locked in on achieving their goals this season. This is a very strong group of players with proven goalscorers such as Undav crucial to their chances.

It feels like Stuttgart are catching Augsburg at a good time here. The hosts have already lost to two other teams at the top end of the table over the past fortnight and it’s well worth backing them to go down for a third time in a row against another formidable opponent in Hoeness’ side.
