Augsburg preview: Losing streak in rear view

Augsburg have so far gone through all the highs and lows of a typical Bundesliga season. After a good start to the campaign, they found themselves sliding down the table at an uncontrollable rate following a run of four consecutive league defeats. But a commanding 3-1 win at home to Wolfsburg ended that barren run and they’ve since backed that up promisingly.

FC Cologne have made a really good start to the season and sit inside the European places heading into this contest. But Augsburg managed to hold them to a 1-1 draw away from home most recently and even had the lead at one stage before being pegged back.

RB Leipzig preview: Back to winning ways

Whilst a 1-1 draw away at Borussia Dortmund wouldn’t usually be considered a positive result for RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich’s sensational start to the campaign has turned it into a damaging result, with Ole Werner’s side losing two points worth of ground in that round the fixtures. Since then, RB Leipzig have got back on the winning trail, beating Hamburg by two goals to one.

With 13 points from their last five Bundesliga fixtures, Leipzig are keeping themselves in a good position to pounce in the unlikely event that Bayern slip-up, but the pressure is on Werner’s men with Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart snapping at their heels.

Augsburg team news: Rexhbecaj a doubt

Augsburg head into this weekend with key versatile forward Elvis Rexhbecaj remaining a doubt for the hosts due to a back injury. Defender Jeffrey Gouweleeuw is a confirmed absentee due to a knee issue.

Predicted XI: Dahmen; Fellhauer, Matsima, Banks, Giannoulis; Kade, Massengo, Jakic, Saad; Rieder, Komur

Unavailable: Gouewleeuw (Injured)

Questionable: Rexhbecaj (Injured)

RB Leipzig team news: Bakayoko a doubt

Former PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko is a doubt for Leipzig this weekend due to a calf issue picked up in midweek. They remain without full-back duo Benjamin Henrichs and Kosta Nedeljkovic due to injury.

Predicted XI: Gulacsi; Klostermann, Orban, Lukeba, Raum; Ouedraogo, Seiwald, Baumgartner; Harder, Romulo, Nusa

Unavailable: Henrichs (Injured), Nedeljkovic (Injured), Gebel (Injured)

Questionable: Finkgrafe (Injured), Baku (Injured), Bakayoko (Injured)

Augsburg vs RB Leipzig prediction

Ole Werner has clearly found a successful formula at RB Leipzig and now they are looking like a side capable of sustaining a title challenge despite the tough opposition they face. Potent and pacy going forward with a front three capable of doing damage from all avenues, Augsburg’s failure to keep a single clean sheet this season is likely to continue.

However, don’t write Augsburg off from an attacking perspective either. RB Leipzig have conceded in each of their most recent two league games and when taking into account the confidence among the home camp since ending that losing run, it would be no surprise if they were to throw some haymakers back at Leipzig. With that in mind, consider backing both teams to score.
