Following a dramatic week on and off the pitch, Augsburg turn their attention back to Bundesliga action, with Bayern Munich the visitors to MHPArena.

Augsburg preview: Capitalising on wasteful opposition

Augsburg head coach Sandro Wagner will have been delighted at how his side took full advantage of Freiburg’s lack of cutting edge going forward last weekend. As the visitors, Augsburg had to be at their most ruthless going forward and indeed they were, scoring three on the road in the first half and leaving Freiburg stunned.

They then went on to do a professional job in the second half, killing off the game and only conceding once, that being a penalty. Combine that result with DFB-Pokal progression and it’s been a hugely successful start to the season for Augsburg.

Bayern Munich preview: Statement of intent

After the opening night of this season’s Bundesliga, everyone will have been left in doubt as to who will be the team to beat again in 2025-26. On the back of regaining the Meisterschale under the command of Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich haven’t missed a step across the summer and were at their brilliant best against RB Leipzig.

The damage had already been done before Harry Kane’s second half hat-trick, with an attacking midfield three of Michael Olise, Serge Gnabry and Luis Diaz proving irresistible, slicing through the Leipzig defence at will. In the end, a 6-0 thrashing sent a clear message to the rest of Germany, Bayern are firmly back on top.

Augsburg team news: Essende banned

Striker Samuel Essende serves the final match of his suspension and Alexis Claude-Maurice once again misses out with his ankle injury. Maxi Bauer faces a late fitness test to determine his involvement here.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Dahmen; Matsima, Gouweleeuw, Schlotterbeck; Wolf, Fellhauer, Jakic, Massengo, Giannoulis; Komur, Saad

Unavailable: Claude-Maurice (Injured), Essende (Suspended)

Questionable: Bauer (Injured)

Bayern Munich team news: Kim on sidelines

With Vincent Kompany having a selection of quality centre-backs to choose from, Kim Min-jae will likely be the player who has to sit out once again. Key players such as left-back Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala remain out injured.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Stanisic; Kimmich, Goretzka; Olise, Gnabry, Diaz; Kane

Unavailable: Bischof (Injured), Davies (Injured), Ito (Injured), Musiala (Injured)

Questionable:

Augsburg vs Bayern Munich prediction

Bayern Munich have come unstuck at Augsburg in the past, but when you take into account just how irresistible they looked from an attacking perspective against RB Leipzig, then it’s very difficult to see them slipping up this time around. Harry Kane looked his brilliant best in front of goal, Olise sensational and Diaz has blended in seamlessly.

Augsburg will need to take any chances they are afforded because the chances of them shutting out the visitors are incredibly slim. Realistically though, any outcome other than a comprehensive win for Bayern by at least two clear goals would be a surprise. Their offensive players are just too good and should be too strong for Augsburg to contain effectively.

Augsburg vs Bayern Munich tip: Bayern Munich to win with -1 handicap
