Athletic Bilbao vs Elfsborg Prediction

Athletic come into this matchday five encounter against Swedish club Elfsborg in fine form having won three and drawn one in the Europa League so far. They are riding a seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions and come off an excellent 1-0 win over Basque rivals Real Sociedad in La Liga at the weekend.

There is every chance that Ernesto Valverde will rotate his team for this match and he could well hand a start to returning star goalkeeper Unai Simon who has had a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Elfsborg come into this match having not played in 17 days since the Swedish league ended. They did play a friendly last week to prepare for this match but there is a concern it will impact their sharpness.

They have produced some good displays in the Europa League this season including a 1-0 win over Roma and a draw with Sporting Braga. However, those both came at home and they have struggled on their travels. They conceded three at AZ Alkmaar and four at Galatasaray so this could well be another tough assignment.

Even if they rotate, Athletic just still have too much quality for Elfsborg and we expect them to win in a match that could contain a good few goals.
