Aston Villa Preview: Villa’s wobble

Aston Villa entered into spring with three competitions to fight in but their UEFA Champions League quarter-final exit to Paris Saint-Germain has now been backed up by a 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Wembley Stadium last weekend.

As well as that, Unai Emery’s Villains have slipped away from the top five and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots in the Premier League due to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City about a week and a half ago due to a late winner scored by Matheus Nunes.

Fulham Preview: Fulham still fighting

Marco Silva and his Fulham side have often been frustrating to watch this season with their ceiling as high as their floor can be low but the Cottagers head into the final four games of the campaign still in contention for a top eight finish and potential European qualification.

That hope of UEFA Europa Conference League football was fading last weekend as they were 1-0 down to rock-bottom Southampton at St Mary’s before Emile Smith Rowe, via a deflection, equalised in the 72nd minute and then Ryan Sessegnon won the game late on for the visitors.

Aston Villa Team News: Rashford could be out for the season

Earlier this week it was reported that Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford had picked up a hamstring injury that was expected to see him miss the rest of this season. However, Unai Emery is hopeful that he can play 'one or two matches' and that he will be back before the end of the campaign.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Tielemans; McGinn, Rogers, Ramsey; Watkins

Unavailable: Rashford (Injured)

Fulham Team News: Robinson potentially out

United States international left-back and key player Antonee Robinson is back available after missing the defeat of Southampton due to injury last weekend. Reiss Nelson is a long-term absentee and Marco Silva has also said that it is 'difficult' for Rodrigo Muniz to feature for the Cottagers again this season.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Leno; Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Sessegnon; Pereira, Berge, Iwobi; Wilson, Jimenez, Willian

Unavailable: Nelson (Injured), Muniz (Injured)

Aston Villa vs Fulham Prediction

Aston Villa simply have to get back on track to salvage a season that has still been a good and memorable one for Villa supporters but is in danger of finishing with a bit of a whimper and outlining a regression from last year’s fourth place finish. They face a Fulham side that will try and get on the counter-attack away from home and that may help them in the second city. Villa remain favourites at home but it should be quite a topsy turvy and fun watch for the neutral.
