Aston Villa preview: Still on track

A 2-0 defeat to a rejuvenated Liverpool at Anfield last weekend meant that Aston Villa's winning run in the Premier League ended at four games, but Unai Emery will not be too disappointed with their current mid-table position given how poorly they started the season.

In action in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, Villa won 2-0 at home against Maccabi Tel Aviv to make it three wins from their first four games in the league phase of that competition.

Bournemouth preview: Fighting at the top

Bournemouth lost 3-1 to Erling Haaland-inspired Man City at the Etihad last Sunday, which was only the Cherries' second Premier League defeat of what has so far been a hugely positive campaign for Andoni Iraola's side.

They are winless in their last five meetings with this weekend's opponents though, and their last victory at Villa Park came back in August 2019 (1-2).

Aston Villa team news: Duo return

Tyrone Mings and Andres Garcia are the only missing players for Aston Villa following the returns of Youri Tielemans and Emi Buendia on Thursday.

It may be too soon for both to start though, with more minutes off the bench perhaps more likely.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Onana; Guessand, Rogers, McGinn; Watkins

Unavailable: Mings (Injured), Garcia (Injured)

Bournemouth team news: Clean bill of health

Andoni Iraola is once again blessed with a fully-fit squad with Alex Jimenez, Tyler Adams and Antoine Semenyo having shaken off minor knocks they received against Man City.

Justin Kluivert could come back into the starting line-up after a benching last time out, while fit-again Evanilson will be considered for the striker's role.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Jimenez, Diakite, Senesi, Truffert; Scott, Adams; Tavernier, Kluivert, Semenyo; Evanilson

Aston Villa vs Bournemouth prediction

Aston Villa boss Emery will not be too disheartened by last weekend's defeat to Liverpool as they have otherwise made significant improvements in recent weeks, and indeed they bounced back well in Europe on Thursday.

That being said, they run into a Bournemouth side who have scored in all but one of their Premier League games this season, with the Cherries boasting a number of players with a keen eye for goal.

Both teams have reason to believe they can find the net here, with goals at either end a distinct possibility.
