AS FAR vs Gotham FC prediction

In our preview of their semi-final encounter against Corinthians, we highlighted the absence of Gotham FC striker Esther Gonzalez due to parental leave and the likely negative effect it would have on the Gotham attack. Those fears came to fruition as the NWSL champions lacked cutting edge in front of goal and were ultimately punished in what proved to be the tight encounter we expected, as Gabi Zanotti’s half-volley inside the final ten minutes sent Corinthians through to the final. This sets up a third-place play-off for Gotham, not what they would’ve wanted heading into the competition.

AS FAR were always going to be massive underdogs against UEFA Women’s Champions League winners Arsenal and as expected, the Gunners dominant throughout against the Moroccan side. It was crucial that AS FAR started well but after conceding inside eight minutes, the floodgates quickly opened. In the end, Arsenal triumphed by six goals to nil and whilst the scoreline doesn’t look good, AS FAR battled valiantly and didn’t disgrace themselves against a squad of world class players.

Gotham are expected to be without star midfielder Rose Lavelle due to the concussion protocol and Brazilian Gabi Portilho through injury. But despite that, they still boast a significantly stronger side than their opponents and although there will be question marks regarding motivation, Gotham won’t want to go home on the back of two defeats, so back them to do a professional job and beat AS FAR comprehensively.
