Arsenal vs Corinthians prediction

Arsenal were widely expected to come through their semi-final against AS FAR easily and they did just that, outclassing the champions of Africa from the beginning. From the moment they took the lead inside the opening ten minutes, Renee Slegers’ side never took their foot off the gas and raced into a 4-0 lead at half-time. Two more goals in the second-half completed the rout and set up an exciting final at the Emirates Stadium against Corinthians.

The Brazilians impressed hugely from a defensive point of view against NWSL giants Gotham FC in the last four, soaking up plenty of pressure and working extremely hard to nulify the offence of their opponents. Yet when their chance finally came late on, Corinthians took it, captain Gabi Zanotti sparking wild scenes among their supporters with what proved to be the winning goal. They’ll need to show the same resilience and solidity against the Gunners, who are in good form, confident mood and boast a stronger, more varied attack than Gotham.

This is unlikely to be the comfortable evening Arsenal encountered on Wednesday, when taking into account that Corinthians are a much-better side than AS FAR. They’ll need to be alert to the counter-attack and set-piece threat posed by the CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina winners. However, home advantage being in Arsenal’s favour may well prove critical with the large pitch and carpet-like surface suiting their style of play. In the end, Arsenal should do enough to come through and win the first FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
