Angola preview: Need a reaction

Angola have been in a period of transition throughout this calendar year, with Patrice Beaumelle having replaced Pedro Goncalves, who had previously done a very impressive job in charge of the Angolans.

Angola began their AFCON group stage campaign with a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in their opener last week before a very underwhelming 1-1 draw against a poor Zimbabwe side in Marrakech.

Egypt preview: African giants

Coached by Hossam Hassan, the Egyptians have re-emerged as one of the real forces of African international football and the Pharaohs, who will be at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will believe they can add to their seven AFCON titles.

Egypt began with a hard-fought 2-1 defeat of Zimbabwe before then squeezing past South Africa by a goal to nil the other day, despite defender Mohamed Hany having been sent off in first-half stoppage-time in Agadir.

There is a fair bit of depth in this Angolan squad, with the likes of Zito Luvumbo, Randy Nteka, Milson and Maestro having been substituted against Zimbabwe the other day.

As instilled by Pedro Goncalves, Angola have continued to play an easy on the eye and more proactive style of football under the management of Patrice Beaumelle. Egypt have real stars to punish ineffective possession, though, especially in transition, such as Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. As a result, siding with the Egyptians in a potentially fun watch is the best bet for this one.
