Algeria preview: Impressive Algerians

Algeria have something of a star studded squad by African international football standards. They have often underperformed on the big stage in recent years but will be confident ahead of what is a big six months or so for the Algerians.

Algeria most recently reached the quarter-finals of the FIFA Arab Cup but that wasn’t the first-team, with their out and out main side having now enjoyed a six-match unbeaten run of form since a 4-3 defeat to Sweden in a friendly back in June.

Sudan preview: Average Sudanese

The Sudanese national side, coached by James Kwesi Appiah, are currently ranked 118th in the world, according to FIFA, with the ‘Falcons of Jediane’, as they are nicknamed, having been competitive for large parts of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.

Sudan eventually succumbed to finishing third in Group B of CAF qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but they were actually the pace setters ahead of Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo at one stage in that campaign.

Algeria team news: Strong squad

Former Switzerland manager Vladimir Petkovic has an impressive squad that is captained by Riyad Mahrez, bolstered by the likes of Houssem Aouar and Mohamed Amoura in attack.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-): Mandrea; Belghali, Mandi, Bensebaini, Ait-Nouri; Maza, Bennacer; Mahrez, Aouar, Hadj Moussa; Amoura

Sudan team news: Pressure on Mo & Abo Eisa

In the final third of the pitch, there is a lot of pressure and a fair bit of reliance on the likes of former Peterborough United striker Mo Eisa and former Grimsby Town winger Abo Eisa.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Abu Eshrein; Karshoum, Khamis, Ering; Barglan, Abdalla, Khedr, Mohamedein; A. Eisa, M. Eisa, Abdelrahman

Algeria vs Sudan prediction

Algeria have an extremely impressive squad and a lot of depth to go with it, too. In the last half a decade, they have become one of the strongest sides in Africa but failed to qualify for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups before failing at AFCON tournaments. However, they have again improved with Petkovic at the helm and, with Sudan regressing in the last 12 months or so, the Algerians should ease to victory here.

Algeria vs Sudan tip: Algeria to win -1 handicap
