Algeria preview: A return to strength

Under the management of former Switzerland boss Vladimir Petkovic, Algeria have re-emerged as a real force in African football as they eased themselves through the group stages of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations with three successive victories.

Their most recent outing saw them ease to a comfortable 3-1 defeat of Equatorial Guinea the other day, courtesy of a Zineddine Belaid, Fares Chaibi and Ibrahim Maza, despite making a lot of changes to their side.

DR Congo preview: Impressive DR Congo

Coached by Sebastian Desabre, the Democratic Republic of Congo have been impressive in the last 12-18 months or so and they have the FIFA Intercontinental Playoffs to look forward to in March.

DR Congo have a very strong squad with a surprising amount of depth and they eased through Group C without losing a game, most recently hammering Botswana by three goals to nil at the Agdal Medina Stadium in Rabat the other day.

Algeria team news: Back to full strength

Algeria made a few changes for their final group stage game but they do have some key confirmed absentees, such as former Olympique Lyonnais attacking midfielder Houssem Aouar.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Zidane; Belghali, Mandi, Bensebaini, Ait-Nouri; Bennacer, Maza; Mahrez, Boudaoui, Hadj Moussa; Amoura

Unavailable: Hadjam (Injured), Chergui (Injured), Aouar (Injured)

Questionable:

DR Congo team news: Couple of doubts

DR Cogo head into their round of 16 clash against Algeria with a couple of injury doubts as both Arthur Masuaku and Mario Stroeykens could both be unavailable once again.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Mpasi; Kalulu, Mbemba, Bushiri, Kayembe; Elia, Mukau, Pickel, Mbuku; Kakuta, Mayele

Unavailable:

Questionable: Masuaku (Injured), Stroeykens (Injured)

Algeria vs DR Congo prediction

Both Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo play more attacking styles of football in contrast to the rest of the continent, with a lot of talent on both sides in the final third. Algeria have booked their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the DR Congo could also be there, too. This should be quite a fun watch for the neutral and both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.
