These are two sides that have shared similar trajectories in recent seasons as Deportivo Alaves welcome Getafe to the Basque Country this weekend.

Alaves preview: Somehow still punching

Deportivo Alaves have moved themselves into the top-half of La Liga ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. That is especially surprising when considering the irritation that many supporters feel both towards coach Eduardo Coudet and hierarchy, too, following the reported £7 million sale of Carlos Vicente to Birmingham City.

The Basque outfit have enjoyed back-to-back victories in recent weeks in La Liga, but they head into this one on the back of a deflating 3-2 loss at home to Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey, having led twice, with Toni Martinez missing a penalty to make it 3-1 mid-way through the second-half.

Getafe preview: Solid Getafe

In his second stint in charge of Getafe, the always ultra-aggressive Jose Bordalas is again getting his team to punch above its weight with a defensive, safety first approach that has them able to bloody the nose of most teams but financial constraints are beginning to tell.

Pressure is beginning to show on the manager with criticism of the board and even supporters. Getafe come into this one on the back of a nine-match winless run of form across all competitions in both La Liga and then Copa del Rey.

Alaves team news: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for Alaves to deal with this weekend as only versatile midfielder Carlos Benavidez remains absent for the hosts.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Antonio Sivera; Jonny, Garces, Jon Pacheco, Vitor Parada; Calebe, Antonio Blanco, Pablo Ibanez, Carles Alena; Toni Martinez, Lucas Boye

Unavailable: Carlos Benavidez (Injured)

Questionable:

Getafe team news: Abqar could return

Centre-back Abdel Abqar has been sidelined for a while but he is inching his way back to full fitness, while Davinchi and Borja Mayoral remain confirmed injury absentees.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): David Soria; Domingos Duarte, Djene, Sebastian Boselli; Kiko Femenia, Mario Martin, Luis Milla, Mauro Arambarri, Juan Iglesias; Luis Vazquez, Martin Satriano

Unavailable: Davinchi (Injured), Kamara (Ineligible), Borja Mayoral (Injured)

Questionable: Abqar (Injured)

Alaves vs Getafe prediction

Getafe's most recent outing did see them but in a much-improved, more typically obdurate display as they shared a goalless draw with Celta Vigo at Balaidos in Galicia. Alaves are the better and more in-form of the two sides but are hardly fluent and so a low-scoring encounter is to be expected, albeit one in which the hosts do come out on top at Mendizarrozza.

Alaves vs Getafe tip: Double chance – Alaves to win or draw & under 2.5 goals
