AC Milan preview: Improved but frustrated

Massimiliano Allegri's AC Milan begin this weekend's round of fixtures sitting ten points adrift of Internazionale with 11 games to go, having been frustrated by too many draws throughout this campaign.

The Rossoneri come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 win away at Cremonese last weekend, courtesy of late strikes from Serbia international defender Strahinja Pavlovic and Portugal international attacker Rafael Leao.

Inter Milan preview: Trouble in big games

Cristian Chivu has had an issue in charge of Internazionale with too many underwhelming performances in the so-called ‘biggest’ games this season, as was the case with a goalless draw against Como in the Coppa Italia semi-finals in midweek.

The Nerazzurri have remained in the tie, though, and that pragmatism has helped them mop the floor with the vast majority of Serie A, as was the case last weekend as they recovered from their loss to Bodo/Glimt by beating Genoa by two goals to nil.

AC Milan team news: Several injuries

Matteo Gabbia and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are confirmed absentees for Milan, while Davide Bartesaghi and Santiago Gimenez are doubtful for the hosts.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Maignan; Tomori, De Winter, Pavlovic; Saelemaekers, Fofana, Modric, Rabiot, Pervis Estupinan; Pulisic, Leao

Unavailable: Gabbia (Injured), Loftus-Cheek (Injured)

Questionable: Bartesaghi (Injured), Santiago Gimenez (Injured)

Inter Milan team news: Striking issues

Inter head to Milan with a couple of injury issues in the final third as Lautaro Martinez is a confirmed absentee with Ange-Yoan Bonny a doubt, too, due to a calf injury.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Akanji, De Vrij, Bastoni; Luis Henrique, Barella, Zielinski, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Esposito

Unavailable: Lautaro Martinez (Injured)

Questionable: Bonny (Injured)

AC Milan vs Inter Milan prediction

Inter confirmed their previous Scudetto in 2024 with a derby day win against Milan. This time won't quite clinch it but they will be able to more or less give themselves an unassailable lead at the top-of-the-table. Milan will do as Allegri always does and sit back, sit tight and try to pinch the game late on. Regardless of what eventually happens on Sunday night, it may be a fairly attritional and, frankly, tedious watch for the neutral.

AC Milan vs Inter Milan tip: Under 2.5 goals
