AC Milan Preview: Saving their season

At the turn of the year, former Porto boss Sergio Conceicao was appointed AC Milan manager and, in his first two matches, they came from behind against both Juventus and then Internazionale to win the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia.

Their form has remained very underwhelming in Serie A as they sit outside of the top seven and the European spots with Conceicao expected to depart at the end of the season, albeit they come into this one on the back of three successive league victories.

Bologna Preview: Impressive Bologna

Vincenzo Italiano took charge of a Bologna side that had been decimated last summer and, after a slow-ish start to the campaign, the visitors have put themselves in the race for the top four and UEFA Champions League qualification before an ill-timed poor run of form.

They come into this one on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Milan at San Siro the other day in a game in which Bologna were leading until the 73rd minute. That means Bologna have now managed just one victory in their last six matches in Serie A as they falter in the run for the top four.

AC Milan Team News: Several issues

Milan are dealing with several injury doubts for this one with winter window signings Warren Bondo and Riccardo Sottil among those potentially unavailable as well as key players Fikayo Tomori and Youssouf Fofana, whilst Emerson Royal continues his recovery.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Maignan; Walker, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Alex Jimenez, Loftus-Cheek, Reijnders, Hernandez; Pulisic, Joao Felix; Jovic

Unavailable:

Questionable: Tomori (Injured), Emerson Royal (Injured), Fofana (Injured), Bondo (Injured), Sottil (Injured)

Bologna Team News: Key doubts

As they make the trip to the capital city this weekend, Bologna have several injury issues with some key doubts such as Sweden international defender Erik Holm and versatile Switzerland international attacker Dan Ndoye.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Skorupski; De Silvestri, Beukema, Jhon Lucumi, Juan Miranda; Moro, Freuler, Ferguson; Orsolini, Dallinga, Dominguez

Unavailable: Erlic (Injured), Pedrola (Injured)

Questionable: Holm (Injured), Odgaard (Injured), Ndoye (Injured)

AC Milan vs Bologna Prediction

The other day, Bologna were the better side at San Siro before AC Milan’s late turnaround thanks to a brace of goals from Santiago Gimenez as well as a Christian Pulisic strike. The form of the two sides would suggest that Milan are favourites to make it a double trophy-winning half-a-season since the appointment of Conceicao, amid their underwhelming domestic form. Bologna, though, would still have to be viewed as the better and more cohesive side. Milan haven’t been as reactive and as controlled as Conceicao would want so an entertaining cup final would appear likely this midweek.
