Xiao Guodong vs Shaun Murphy prediction
One of the more experienced Chinese players in the draw, Xiao Guodong defeated compatriot and training partner Zhou Yuelong 10-6 in the first round.
Aided by consecutive centuries in the latter half of the match, back-to-back Wuhan Open champion Guodong pulled away when it mattered most and has now matched his run to the second round last year, where he narrowly lost to John Higgins in a nail-biter.
The 37-year-old faces 2005 world champion Shaun Murphy, who kept his composure in the deciding frame to seal a thrilling 10-9 triumph over Fan Zhengyi in the first round.
The Magician wasn't at his fluent best in that win but the way in which he fought back from 53-17 down in the last frame will serve him in good stead as he takes on another Chinese talent.
Guodong actually boasts a marginal edge when it comes to career meeting with Murphy, but they have never played over a format as long as this. Given his sheer experience at this event, we fancy the world number eight to make his class tell, although he will likely find it difficult to shake off the challenge of his opponent so expect another close finish.
