What’s on today (9 February) at the Winter Olympics?
After the Opening Ceremony took place at San Siro in Milan on Friday 6th February, we have enjoyed a jam-packed weekend in the Winter Olympics and now head into the first full week of action.
There are five more medal events on Monday, as well as the semi-finals of the Curling mixed doubles as Team GB bid for their first medal of the games.
Medal events
Alpine Skiing: Men’s team | 1pm (UK)
The final two events in the men’s team combined for Alpine Skiing take place with the downhill final in the morning ahead of the slalom, where the medals will be decided. Marco Odermatt was beaten in the downhill the other day but will be out for revenge in the team event.
Freestyle Skiing: Women’s slopestyle | 12.28pm (UK)
One of the biggest names in the games is Eileen Gu, of China. After a surprise fall in the opening stages of slopestyle qualification, she has made it into the final three runs with Karen Muir, of Great Britain, and Switzerland’s Mathile Gremaud battling it out for the podium spots.
Ski Jumping: Men’s normal hill final | 7.12pm (UK)
One of the final events of the day has medals on the line as the men’s normal hill individual Ski Jumping event will be decided with two runs, the second of which determines the podium positions.
Snowboarding: Women’s big air | 7.17pm (UK)
Team GB’s 19-year-old debutant Mia Brookes has qualified for the final of the women’s big air in third place, which is a major surprise, and she represents a good opportunity for Great Britain to get on the medal table.
Speed Skating: Women’s 1000m | 3pm (UK)
The Dutch are entering an impressive contingent into the women’s 1000m Speed Skating, with the star of the show being five-time World Championship gold medallist Jutta Leerdam seeking to go one better than the silver she picked up in Beijing four years ago.

Curling: Mixed doubles preliminaries & semi-finals | 9.05am – 5.05pm (UK)
Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Mouat have already booked Team GB’s spot in the semi-finals of the Curling, despite losing their final preliminary round game to the Swiss. They will be one of four semi-finalists doing battle on Monday evening.
Figure Skating: Ice dance | 6.20pm (UK)
Qualification for the ice dance in the Figure Skating continues on Monday evening with Canada entering three couples alongside the Americans, while Team GB, Spain and Czechia all enter a couple
Freestyle Skiing: Men’s and women’s slopestyle qualification | 9.30am – 1pm (UK)
Eileen Gu is a two-time Olympic gold medallist but she missed out with silver in the slopestyle in Beijing. She will be back in qualifying for the slopestyle final on Saturday.
Ice Hockey: Women’s preliminaries | 11.10am – 8.10pm (UK)
The women’s group stages in the Ice Hockey continue on Monday with the standout fixture seeing Switzerland take on Team USA, while hosts Italy get play underway up against the Japanese.
Luge: Women’ singles run 1 and run 2 | 4pm - 5.35pm (UK)
The women’s singles event in the luge takes places at the start of this week with the first two runs of the final on Monday and the final two, where the medals are decided, on Tuesday.
