THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Alejandro Tabilo set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 39th after finishing runner-up to Sebastian Baez at the Chile Open last weekend, taking the first set before falling to the Rio champion. The Chilean enjoyed a surprise run to his maiden ATP title at the Auckland Classic in January and adding a second final last week cements his status as an up-and-comer rather than a fluke performer.

World number 67 Pavel Kotov is somewhere just behind that level at this moment in time after coming desperately close to beating Gael Monfils in the Stockholm Open final, his first on tour, late last season. The 25-year-old began 2024 in a similar vein, reaching the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open before defeat to eventual runner-up Emil Ruusuvuori, but a hammering by Sebastian Korda last time out in Dubai gives him a 4-4 record for the season to leave this match a tough call. Back the Kazakh to earn at least a set given that Tabilo is coming from a disappointing defeat on home soil but this match is certainly worth keeping from an accumulator.
