THE PREDICTION

This could be the match of the quarter-finals on Thursday between world number 24 Matteo Berrettini and number 10 Holger Rune. 26-year-old Berrettini is yet to drop a set this week in Acapulco, conceding just seven games overall to blast past Alex Molcan and Elias Ymer, but Rune has overcome the tougher challenges to see off Australian Open quarter-finalist Ben Shelton from a set down and coast past in-form Nuno Borges. A fit and firing Berrettini won their first encounter in three sets at Indian Wells last spring but 19-year-old Rune has vastly improved on hardcourts since then, although his best results have come indoors so far. It is difficult to gauge how ready Berrettini is for this test but backing Rune to earn at least a set seems the most sensible way to avoid picking a winner here.
