THE PREDICTION

Former world number 10 Lucas Pouille won the most recent of his five ATP titles at the Montpellier Open back in 2018 and since then he has struggled with long injury lay-offs away from the tour. The 28-year-old has found his best Grand Slam joy away from Roland-Garros, having never made it past the third round at his home slam, but this could be a useful opener against world number 136 Zdenek Kolar as the Czech makes his Grand Slam debut here. The 25-year-old qualified for the main draw in Paris in what will be the most important match of his career, with this only his second tour-level match. Pouille recently beat Karen Khachanov at the Madrid Open in one if his best results since coming back to the tour and despite Kolar’s qualifying momentum the Frenchman can be tentatively backed to come through outright here.
