World number 46 Alycia Parks claimed her maiden WTA title indoors at the Lyon Open back in February and she has impressed back on hardcourts recently despite taking a three-match losing streak into Guadalajara. The 22-year-old has lost three tight three-setters to top 30 opponents in Belinda Bencic, Daria Kasatkina and Anastasia Potapova to look well capable of enjoying a strong run here and it helps that she will face the last player she beat on tour in Lauren Davis, who fell in three sets to Parks at the Canada Masters last month. World number 55 Davis has enjoyed one of her better seasons on tour with a second WTA title won early at the Hobart International and a recent result over Sloane Stephens but the 29-year-old will have to be at her best to find any joy against Parks’ excellent serving. Backing Parks to earn at least a set would be the suitably cautious move for an accumulator but the younger American should be able to edge through.
