THE PREDICTION
30-year-old Simona Halep is back safely-installed inside the top 10 where she belongs at world number six after claiming her third Canada Masters title on Sunday. The Romanian made it seven Masters titles overall with a three-set victory over in-form Beatriz Haddad-Maia, with back-to-back victories over title-contenders Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff before that fully deserving of the trophy. Former world number 19 Karolina Muchova will be sorry to see Halep’s name against her own so soon after a first round exit to the former world number one at Wimbledon last month. The 25-year-old is currently ranked outside the top 150 after suffering an inordinate amount of injuries over the last few seasons and she could desperately do with a kind draw sooner rather than later, as well as a few months of clean health.
Halep has enough experience to turn the screw after a title win and she should be considered a real contender for both Cincinnati and the US Open off the back of last week. Back her to win this in straight sets but leave the match out of an accumulator as Muchova may not finish the match.
