THE PREDICTION

Former world number four Caroline Garcia had to come back from a set down to beat fellow Frenchwoman Chloe Pacquet on Tuesday but she ultimately came through comfortably enough. The 28-year-old recently won the eighth WTA title of her carer at the Bad Homburg Open on grass in form that took her to the round of 16 at Wimbledon but she is still probably at her best on the clay, with a run to the semi-finals of the Lausanne Open last week ended by the eventual champion Petra Martic. 21-year-old Elisabetta Cocciaretto will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 104th after conceding just one game to fellow Italian Sara Errani in the first round and she will break the top 100 for a first time if she stuns the fifth seed here. Garcia’s opener offers a pause for thought against the steadily rising Italian but realistically the 28-year-old should be taking this in straight sets.
