THE PREDICTION

World number two Carlos Alcaraz beat Dusan Lajovic in straight sets on Friday to improve on his three-set opener against Laslo Djere as he makes his return to the tour from injury. The 19-year-old’s star only rose over the last two seasons, culminating with a maiden Grand Slam title won in New York and a place at the top of the rankings, so it will be hugely fascinating to see how he develops since reaching the pinnacle of the sport. 26-year-old Bernabe Zapata Miralles will set a career-high ATP world ranking of around 63rd after upsetting both Diego Schwartzman and Francisco Cerundolo this week but the elder Spaniard has drawn the shortest straw in the draw here. Zapata Miralles looks et to enjoy his best season on clay over the next few months but a victory over Alcaraz, who will receive the lion’s share of the support here, would be a huge surprise. Back Alcaraz to win outright, although two should do it.
