THE PREDICTION

World number seven Anett Kontaveit beat crowd favourite Ons Jabeur in comfortable straight sets on Thursday to extend her winning streak to eight matches, following her St. Petersburg Open title two weeks ago. World number 13 Jelena Ostapenko lost to Kontaveit in the semi-finals there but since then she has gone one better, with a straight-sets victory over Garbine Muguruza on Thursday taking her up to nine wins in a row after she claimed the Dubai Tennis Championships last weekend. The Latvian has now beaten six Grand Slam champions, including reigning Roland-Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova, across Dubai and Qatar in sudden form nothing short of outstanding.

Ostapenko and Kontaveit have some recent history, with Ostapenko winning the Eastbourne International last June in straight sets over the Estonian but, as aforementioned, Kontaveit beating her in the semi-finals of the St. Petersburg Open on her way to that title just two weeks ago. That latest result brought Kontaveit up to 2-1 in their tour-level head-to-head record which would suggest she is the favourite once again here but Ostapenko’s level has sky-rocketed since. Taking this match to see three sets would be a suitable alternative to picking a winner here but on very recent form you could also back Ostapenko to win at least a set as the just-about likeliest winner.
