THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Arthur Rinderknech broke the top 50 for the first time this week after reaching a first ATP tour final on Saturday, finishing runner-up to home favourite Thanasi Kokkinakis in Adelaide. The Frenchman steadily improved throughout 2021 and he reached a whole host of quarter-finals across the tour after a 2020 season spent succeeding on the Challenger circuit. He looks the fair favourite here against Australia’s Alexei Popyrin with the youngster coming in off a two-match losing streak and looking a little flat on court. The 22-year-old won his first ATP tour title almost a year ago at the Singapore Open and he will be well-backed by what is a boisterous Melbourne crowd here but Rinderknech’s form is on the up at this moment in time. Take the Frenchman to win outright here in a match that could easily see four or five. You can add at least a tiebreak here for value.
