It’s incredible to think that this is the first time since 2018 that Sri Lanka will host India in the red ball format. One thing’s for certain, spin is likely to play a huge part in proceedings as is so often the case around these parts. There are plenty of runs to be had, especially early in the test if batters apply themselves well in the humidity of Galle, but it should get tougher as the pitch deteriorates.
Both teams are in somewhat of a transition period when it comes to test cricket with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma no longer there for India. One player who does remain, is the veteran left-arm spinning all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and this is the sort of environment that should suit his skills well. Sri Lanka can be a happy place for spinners and Jadeja’s notorious control and accuracy may well reap reward. Back him to record a sizeable volume of wickets during this opening test match.
