San Francisco Unicorns were indebted to opener Finn Allen, who got the third season of MLC started with a bang by blasting 151 from 51 balls, in a knock which included a world record 19 sixes. That score parachuted the Unicorns to 269/5 against Washington Freedom, leading to a victory by 123 runs as Washington were dismissed for 146 in front of a jubilant crowd at the Oakland Coliseum.

Los Angeles Knight Riders are all set for their first match of this year’s campaign. It’s been a bad first two years for LA in the competition, winning just three of their 12 matches played overall and failing to qualify for the play-offs on both occasions. Their rosters contains a healthy dose of experience but perhaps lacks star players in their prime, with the Knight Riders still dependant on ageing players such as Sunil Narine and Andre Russell. As San Francisco are already familiar with the dimensions and surroundings of the Coliseum, back them to get the better of LA.
