THE TEAM NEWS

CANTERBURY BULLDOGS

  • Canterbury Bulldogs were unable to capitalise on facing an under-strength Penrith Panthers side missing a handful of key players owing to State of Origin call-ups as the team at the foot of the ladder suffered yet another loss.
  • The Bulldogs never looked like troubling the Panthers and have now lost their last five games while it is just one win in their last 12 but in their quest to improve on that run, they could be boosted by the return of Tevita Pangai Jnr. after he was listed among the reserves.

Starting 13: Averillo, Kiraz, Schoupp, Allan, Addo-Carr, Burton, Flanagan, Seumanufagai, Marshall-King, Vaughan, Jackson, Faitala-Mariner, King – Interchanges: Dockar-Clay, Waddell, Stimson, Patolo – Reserves: Dufty, Biondi-Odo, Morrin, Lumelume, Pangai Jnr.

Unavailable: Matt Doorey, Jack Hetherington, Braidon Burns, Billy Tsikrikas, Luke Thompson

PARRAMATTA EELS

  • Parramatta Eels secured a second win in succession as they produced a solid performance to get the better of Canberra Raiders last time out and they will be looking to kick-on as they bid to break into the top four.
  • The Eels are starting to click into gear, especially with the ball and they will be confident of recording another success here against their struggling opponents, especially as they have powerful winger Maika Sivo back in the side after recovering from a knee reconstruction.

Starting 13: Gutherson, Sivo, Penisini, Blake, Simonsson, D. Brown, Moses, Campbell-Gillard, Mahoney, Paulo, Lane, Niukore, Papali’i – Interchanges: Makatoa, Matterson, Kaufusi, N. Brown – Reserves: Opacic, Arthur, Rein, Cartwright, Rodwell, Russell

Unavailable: Haze Dunster, Ray Stone

THE PREDICTION

Canterbury Bulldogs have looked like the worst team in the NRL for much of this season and it is hard to see where they earn their next win. They fell to a fifth successive loss last week as they succumbed to a weakened Penrith Panthers outfit and things do not get much easier for them as they take on Parramatta Eels. Starting Round 14 just outside of the top four, the Eels will go in search of a third win in-a-row and having won the past four matchups between the two teams, Parramatta are likely to be too good here with the Eels able to cover the -14 handicap in the process.
