YADONG SONG VS CHRIS GUTIERREZ LOWDOWN
Yadong Song (20-7-1(1)) does not get to fight in front of his adoring fans in Shanghai, but he is just happy to perform again after his ‘Performance of the Night’ back in April. He was coming off his first loss four fights which was handed out by top contender Cory Sandhagen (2022). The spectacle unfortunately ended due to a cut over Song’ eye. However, he bounced back perfectly by knocking out Ricky Simon at UFC on ESPN 45.
Chris Gutierrez (20-5-2) is also coming off a bounce-back win. He was unbeaten in eight and fresh off sending Frankie Edgar (2022) into retirement with a devastating knee. Pedro Munhoz (2023) halted his momentum with a unanimous decision victory, but Gutierrez is back on the winning track after a unanimous decision of his own over Alateng Heili back in October.
YADONG SONG VS CHRIS GUTIERREZ PREDICTION
This should be an explosive battle on the feet with an abundance of technique on show. We expect to see a violent exchange between Gutierrez’s leg kicks and Song’s counter punching. They are both rapid and can keep up a pace for five rounds so this should be a spectacle.
If Gutierrez can be the aggressor and not let Song settle, he can chop him down with his kicks and overwhelm him with his output. However, we expect Song to start quickly and gain control of the smaller cage.
If he can walk Gutierrez down and close the distance, he can conduct the tempo. We are backing his speed and power to impress the judges and as we saw in the Sandhagen fight, he is ready for the championship rounds against the best.
Gutierrez will have his moments, but Song has a higher ceiling and we are backing him to earn a decision at least.
