CAIO BORRALHO VS ARMEN PETROSYAN LOWDOWN

Caio Borralho (11-1(1)) is riding an 11-fight unbeaten streak to drive him into prospect status and it is about time the middleweight division had some new blood. The Brazilian is fresh off his UFC debut which came after two wins on the Contender series. He earnt a unanimous decision over Aaron Jeffery (2021) before another showing on the series less than a month later knocking out Jesse Murray in the first round. He made his debut against Gadzhi Omargadzhiev who was unbeaten and sitting on 13 wins at the time, but the Brazilian stole the attention earning a unanimous decision.

The UFC are clearly trying to weed out the prospects as he has been paired with another in the shape of Armen Petrosyan (7-1). He has transitioned seamlessly from a successful kickboxing career only tasting defeat once so far. That was in June last year getting TKO’d by Hassan Yousefi under the AMC banner. He went on to knock out Alexander Zemlyakov (2021) and then Kaloyan Kolev (2021) on the Contender series. That paved the way for a very tough debut in Gregory Rodrigues, but he manged to squeak past with a split decision.

CAIO BORRALHO VS ARMEN PETROSYAN PREDICTION

These two only have two UFC fights between them, but in terms of skill, this is more than worthy of gracing the co-main slot.

Although it was only a split decision, Petrosyan’s win over Rodrigues was a huge statement. The Brazilian has knocked out Jun Yong Park and Julian Marquez now and was expected to expose the holes in the Armenian’s game by taking him down. However, Petrosyan showed great takedown defence and went toe-to-toe with the powerhouse on the feet showing his class.

Borralho also had a tough fight and displayed his offensive grappling which we expect to see here. Petrosyan is a monster on the feet and he has great ‘get-ups’ but if Borralho can take him down, he will stick to him like glue and pursue a submission.

Expect the Brazilian to open up with leg kicks from his southpaw stance. He will certainly give the kickboxer a run for his money on the feet, but he will have to risk eating some thunderous kicks and deal with Petrosyan’s heavy hands in boxing range.

So, there will be some feisty striking exchanges and if Petrosyan can keep the majority of the fight on the feet, we would back him for the dub, but we feel Borralho has the nous to take the fight away from the Armenian with his grappling.

Petrosyan may spring up from the first couple attempts, but Borralho will be stubborn and considering his level of jiu-jitsu, a submission is a good shout.
