CLAY GUIDA VS JOAQUIM SILVA LOWDOWN
Clay Guida (38-23) heads to Austin Texas for his 36th UFC fight which is the fourth most in UFC history. He is 18-17 and has failed to string two together since 2017. He fought twice last year getting submitted by Claudio Puelles and winning a split decision over Scott Holtzman. However, he is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Rafa Garcia back in April.
Although Joaquim Silva (12-4) got knocked out for the third time in his UFC career in his last outing, he tested the headliner of this card. It was expected to be a complete mismatch, but he hurt Arman Tsarukyan displaying his striking prowess. That came after his most impressive performance to date when he knocked out Jesse Ronson last year.

Getting knocked out in three of his last four fights is a real concern but fortunately Guida’s only knockout in the last 23 fights was Joe Lauzon in 2017. Silva’s biggest concern will be getting wrestled for three rounds and although we did not see much of it in the Garcia fight, we fully expect Guida to fall back on his strengths in Austin.
They size-up similarly physically, but the glaring differences will be Guida’s pace and cardio whereas Silva is more explosive and dynamic. The Brazilian is a much better striker, but Guida has not been knocked out since 2016. If Silva does not put him away early, a knockout will become less likely.
Guida just needs to seal a couple takedowns to start draining the gas tank of Silva and shutting him down. As the hefty underdog, he holds all of the value. Silva’s explosiveness can keep the fight on the feet long enough to land all the damage he needs, but the odds will be against him if this goes past the first round.
