THE LOWDOWN
CAGLIARI
Following promotion to the top-flight last season after winning the Serie B playoffs against Bari, Cagliari begin the 26th match day of the 2023/24 Serie A campaign sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places with just four victories in their 25 matches so far this season and the pressure is growing on former Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri.
The Sardinians come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw in Friuli against Udinese in their most recent outing, last weekend, with Gianluca Gaetano scoring a 44th minute equaliser after Jordan Zemura had opened the scoring for Udinese in that match. That draw up in the north east came on the back of four successive defeats in the league.
NAPOLI
Defending champions Napoli have endured an extremely underwhelming campaign as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half of the table. They took the decision to move onto their third manager of the campaign as Walter Mazzarri, who replaced Rudi Garci in November, was sacked.
Aurelio DeLaurentiis has brought in former assistant manager to Luciano Spalletti, Francesco Calzona, who has been the manager of Slovakia since 2022 and will lead them into UEFA EURO 2024. They shared a 1-1 draw with Barcelona in his first game in charge in midweek in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie as Victor Osimhen cancelled out Robert Lewandowski’s opener.
THE TEAM NEWS

QUESTIONABLE:
NAPOLI
Club captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo is missing for this one due to suspension, whilst attacker Cyril Ngonge is a doubt for this weekend, too.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Meret; Olivera, Rrahmani, Ostigard, Mazzocchi; Anguissa, Lobotka, Traore; Politano, Simeone, Kvaratskhelia
UNAVAILABLE: Di Lorenzo (Suspended)
QUESTIONABLE: Ngonge (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Cagliari will set out to frustrate Napoli in Sardinia on Sunday. The home team are in terrible form themselves, though, and haven’t shown much solidity or ability to compete defensively this season with 46 goals conceded the second most in the league. They face a Napoli side that were improved against Barcelona in midweek but they really have fallen off so far this season. Calzona, in his first league game in charge, will be expected to start getting a tune out of his side and a win against one of the weakest teams in the league would be a kind beginning.
TIP: NAPOLI TO WIN
