On the back of having secured a precious 1-0 lead against PSG in their Champions League semi-final second-leg showdown, Borussia Dortmund now host Augsburg ahead of their trip to Paris this coming Tuesday. One key fact that perhaps was forgotten about at full time was that their victory vs PSG has effectively guaranteed Dortmund a place in next season’s expanded Champions League despite the likelihood of them finishing fifth-place in Bundesliga. This is due to Germany’s coefficient ranking now confirmed to be the second-best in Europe, meaning they gain a fifth place in the tournament alongside Italy.

Having lost three of their last four, Augsburg are stumbling in their quest for European football, but all of their rivals losing in the most recent round of Bundesliga fixtures keeps their hopes firmly alive.
