THE LOWDOWN

MAN UTD

  • Man Utd returned to winning ways in the Premier League by holding off Crystal Palace on Saturday, with their 2-1 victory hard-earned after they were reduced to ten men on account of Casemiro’s dismissal.
  • The Brazilian’s suspension, coupled with other midfield absences, is likely to see a first start for January signing Marcel Sabitzer, while Antony and Anthony Martial have also been ruled out of this fixture.

LEEDS UTD

  • Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest proved to be the last straw for the Leeds board as they saw fit to relieve Jesse Marsch of his duties, with Chris Armas, Michael Skubala and Paco Gallardo combining to take temporary charge of the Yorkshire club for this fixture.
  • Robin Koch returns from suspension and could find himself straight back in the starting line-up, although it remains to be seen what system the temporary trio opt for.

THE PREDICTION

In what is historically one of the biggest games in English football, Man Utd and Leeds will face each other back-to-back in the Premier League and the latter may well have to contest both fixtures without a permanent manager following the dismissal of Jesse Marsch. Leeds have gone seven games without victory in the Premier League, and while it is never easy to predict what kind of reaction there will be to a manager’s sacking, what is certain is that the players will be fired up to perform in what should be a cauldron of an atmosphere at Old Trafford. The hosts have one or two injuries to contend with but with the likes of Marcus Rashford in such scintillating form, it is difficult to look past a Red Devils victory.
