CANTERBURY KINGS

• After a long wait, Canterbury Kings are finally set for their second Super Smash fixture of the tournament, a full two weeks since their 27-run defeat against Wellington Firebirds on the opening match.

CENTRAL STAGS

• Central Stags have firmly established themselves as the team to beat going forward, backing up their win over Otago Volts with victory against reigning champions Wellington last time out, racking up scores of 185/5 and 190/4 across the two games.
• The Stags are not expected to have New Zealand internationals Will Young and Ajaz Patel available, with the recent Test series against India concluding only last Monday.

THE PREDICTION

Canterbury Kings have their work cut out for them here against an opposition full of confidence following their last two victories. Having waited so long between fixtures, it would be no surprise if the Kings show some rustiness in the field, which could cost them here such is the importance of good fielding and the saving of runs at every opportunity in T20 cricket. The Central Stags’ batting unit, have shown their class already in this season’s Super Smash with key contributions from both the top and middle order. Such strength-in-depth should see them grab the initiative in this one, ultimately overpowering the Kings and forcing a third successive Super Smash win.
