THE TEAM NEWS

QUETTA GLADIATORS

  • Quetta Gladiators are firmly rooted to the bottom of the Pakistan Super League table, having lost six of their seven matches so far, including both of their fixtures since the resumption of the competition.
  • Their most recent defeat came at the hands of Peshawar Zalmi, after Quetta recorded just 136/9 chasing 198, losing by 61 runs with none of their batters scoring more than 36 runs.
  • After being hit in the head by a bouncer against Islamabad United this past Friday, big hitting Andre Russell was absent from the Quetta side vs Peshawar and doctors will likely make a late call on whether the West Indian overseas star can play in this match.

LAHORE QALANDARS

  • Lahore Qalandars will be looking to bounce back after losing last time out to Islamabad United, thus missing out on an opportunity to move top of the Pakistan Super League table.
  • After reducing Islamabad to 20/5, the Qalandars failed to take advantage, with their opponents eventually finishing on 152/7 before bowling Lahore out for 124, with all ten wickets falling for just 69 runs.
  • Despite the defeat, Lahore Qalandars are not expected to panic and could well name an unchanged side for this match in the hope that their batters who failed against Islamabad, can cash in against a Quetta side low on confidence.

THE PREDICTION

With just two points to their name in this year’s Pakistan Super League, Quetta Gladiators’ hopes of finishing inside the top four are disappearing fast. Things don’t look like improving for them here against arguably the strongest bowling attack in the competition. Lahore Qalandars will know that regardless of whether they bat or field first, their bowling unit with the likes of spin-bowler Rashid Khan and left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi will always restrict the opposition to a moderate total. So, providing the Lahore Qalandars batting order does not collapse in the same way they did against Islamabad United once the openers are dismissed, then Sohail Akhtar’s side should pick up the victory here.
