• Australia will hope to put their T20 struggles behind them as they take on South Africa in this opening clash of the Super 12 stage but having won just seven of their last 23 T20i matches, they have it all to do.
• The Baggy Greens have lost successive series’ to England, India, New Zealand, West Indies and Bangladesh with many of their stars lacking form and the pressure will be firmly on the likes of David Warner to come to the fore.

• South Africa have won their last nine T20i matches as they arrive for this T20 World Cup on a fine run of form and their recent efforts will give them plenty of confidence for this tournament, although they will want to guard against complacency in this opener.
• The Proteas will be looking at Quinton de Kock to lead the way with the bat while they also boast the best T20 bowler in the world in the form of Tabraiz Shamsi and that pair will be integral to their hopes of becoming T20 world champions.

THE PREDICTION

Australia and South Africa have the honour of kicking off the T20 World Cup proper as they go head-to-head with the duo coming into this with extremely contrasting form. Australia have failed to click in T20 cricket over a prolonged period while the South Africans have won nine straight matches in the shortest format of the game. The Australians have the talent among their ranks to turn that form around but it is hard to justify them as favourites for this game and the Proteas make great appeal as the value selection here.
