THE LOWDOWN

ZIMBABWE

  • Once again Zimbabwe found themselves in a strong position, but failed to ram home their advantage especially after taking three wickets over the powerplay, as they allowed Afghanistan to recover and accrue what was a winning total.
  • Opener Innocent Kaia struck 54 in the run chase and will be hoping to underpin his side’s batting efforts once again in this final T20i, although his side need to find the right balance between playing cautiously against their opponents’ dangerous spin-bowlers, and playing aggressively to up the scoring rate even if it means risking their wickets.

AFGHANISTAN

  • Afghanistan’s score of 170/5 proved to be enough in the second T20i as their bowlers successfully strangled Zimbabwe into submission across the run chase, ultimately winning by 21 runs.
  • Most pleasing from the tourists’ perspective will have been how their middle order contributed with the majority of runs, which bodes well for the team long term ahead of big tournaments such as the T20 World Cup.

THE PREDICTION

Experience in critical moments has been the story of this T20i series so far. Zimbabwe have impressed against a strong Afghanistan side, but the experience and know-how of the tourists when it comes to key situations has seen them recover from positions of weakness and ultimately go on to win both T20i matches played. Afghanistan has shown that they have enough quality down the order with the bat to carry them through should the top order misfire and with a bowling attack which continues to expertly shackle the Zimbabwean batters, Afghanistan are expected to complete a series sweep here.
