THE TEAM NEWS

PAKISTAN

  • Pakistan won the opening T20 match of the series, beating West Indies comprehensively after racking up a score of 200/6 following losing the toss and being put into bat by the tourists.
  • Despite the dismissal of captain Babar Azam for a second ball 0, wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan picked up the slack, hitting 78 before a fast and furious 68 from Haider Ali led Pakistan to their winning total.
  • All-round Mohammad Wasim shone with the ball, taking four wickets in what was only his eighth T20i of his career and the 20-year-old will no doubt be given another opportunity to show what he can do in this second T20i of the series.

WEST INDIES

  • West Indies never at any point looked like coming close to chasing down their total of 201 to win, losing three wickets inside the powerplay and eventually finishing on 137 all out after 19 overs.
  • The Windies can take some heart from the fast that despite their bowling attack was expensive, all five of the bowlers utilised picked up at least one wicket, which could be used as a platform for them to build on going forward.
  • It is a West Indies side without many of their key players such as Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell, the pressure is on their batting order in particular to support the more experienced players such as wicketkeeper Shai Hope and captain Nicholas Pooran.

THE PREDICTION

There was a clear gap in skill level between these two sides in the first T20i, particularly within the batting, with two Pakistan players going on to accrue half-centuries whilst the highest score from a West Indies player was just 31. The tourists struggled to deal with Pakistan’s lethal combination of pace and spin bowling and it would be no surprise if they were to struggle again here. With a world class top order that mixes power with touch and a bowling unit that covers all bases, Pakistan have all the ingredients to secure a second successive victory over West Indies in this latest T20i.
