THE TEAM NEWS

INDIA

  • India’s 12 match winning run in T20 internationals feels like a distant memory now after South Africa’s win in Delhi, which leaves them hanging on for dear life in regards to this particular series with three consecutive victories now needed for them to win the Paytm T20I Trophy.
  • It would be no surprise if the hosts make changes in a bid to try and counter the winning formula currently garnered by the Proteas, with players such as all-rounder Ravi Bishnoi and batter Venkatesh Iyer candidates to come into the side.
  • On the bowling front, both Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik (one of the stars to come out of the 2022 IPL) each represent credible options to play should India wish to change their quicker bowlers.

SOUTH AFRICA

  • South Africa emerged triumphant in the second T20i between these two nations after successfully chasing down 149, giving them a 0-2 lead in the series and now have the opportunity to make their lead unassailable here in Visakhapatnam.
  • Even more impressive was the Proteas winning without star wicket-keeper-batter Quinton de Kock, as Heinrich Klaasen took his place and produced a Player of the Match performance, striking 81 from just 46 balls across South Africa’s run chase.
  • It remains to be seen if South Africa will rotate their bowling line-up, but after winning the last two matches, it’s difficult to see them waiting to change things which would mean the likes of Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi will once again not feature.

THE PREDICTION

South Africa have been excellent value for their series lead following two successful run chases and now all the pressure is on India. Even without De Kock, the visitors have performed really well with the bat and when factoring in the red-hot form of David Miller, South Africa’s strength-in-depth within their batting order makes them a force to be reckoned with. However, both tosses so far have been successfully won by the Proteas, who have subsequently fielded first, so should they lose the toss and be asked to bat by India, it may well pose them significant problems this time round. It is clear that the toss could well turn out to be key in this third T20i, so back the team who wins it, to ultimately triumph in the match itself.
